Location: Sconset, Nantucket
Students: Berkley, Hadley + Willis!
I had the great pleasure of introducing two of my art students to each other last summer, which sparked an amazing new friendship. Roughly a year apart in age, the girls quickly discovered their shared passion for painting, artistic expression and exploration.
Hadley, age 10 and Berkley, age 11, first painted together at one of my favorite plein air painting locations in Sconset. In no time, we found a perfect spot on Front Street to set up our easels. My golden retriever, Willis, was there to assist! The girls, who bonded instantly, were incredibly supportive and encouraging of each other’s work. Hadley admired Berkly’s strong drawing skills and Berkly was inspired by Hadley’s knowledge of color theory. Throughout their three hour lesson, both girls listened intently to my instruction and as importantly, to each other.
This teaching experience is one of my fondest memories because it brought two uniquely talented young girls together who found inspiration in a beautiful place and gained a new sense of confidence in their artistic ability. The girls have kept in touch over the past year and I look forward to working with them once again on Nantucket this summer!
